Airtel, the country’s second largest telecom company, has made a big announcement. The company is going to enter into a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX, under which it will provide some select Starlink services across the country.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US, Elon Musk is now seen expanding rapidly in India. First, his electric vehicle company Tesla has accelerated the process of opening its showroom in India. Now Airtel has announced that it will deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX and offer Starlink services.
Airtel says that the company has signed an agreement with SpaceX to bring Starlink high-speed internet to India. This is the first agreement of its kind. However, the company will launch the Starlink service only after it gets all the regulatory approvals in India.
Airtel stores will be useful
A joint statement from Airtel and Starlink said that the two companies officially signed the deal on March 11. After receiving all the approvals, Airtel will launch Starlink satellite internet service in India. This is India’s first participation in Starlink. Airtel will offer Starlink service from its stores spread across the country. Starlink devices will also be included in this.
Airtel says it already has a partnership with Eutelsat OneWeb. This new partnership will enable Airtel to offer more options to its customers. The service will be better, especially in areas that are currently difficult to reach. With the arrival of these services, it will be able to meet the needs of customers across the country.
The company will get benefits compared to Jio
Bharti Airtel MD and Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal says that the deal with SpaceX to provide Starlink service in India is a new beginning. It reflects the company’s commitment to provide next-generation satellite connectivity technology in India.
Airtel’s deal with Starlink will give it a market edge in the telecom market against Jio. Currently, the country’s largest telecom company is Jio Infocom.
Starlink’s internet will change the entire country
Under this deal, Airtel and SpaceX will not only provide Starlink services in the country, but will also explore opportunities to connect schools and healthcare centers to the internet. Airtel and SpaceX will also explore how Starlink can further expand Airtel’s network.
